Scott McTominay lambasted by pundit amid 'criminal' Man United claim
Frank McAvennie has claimed Scott McTominay is "not good enough" for Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham forward said players like Fred and McTominay, 25, don't deserve to be regular starters at the Red Devils.
United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday (6 August) in their opening Premier League game.
It was the first time Brighton have beaten United at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Sky Sports (7 August), United captain Harry Maguire said it was a "nightmare start" for the Red Devils.
He said the result was a "disappointing" way to start under new United boss Erik ten Hag.
When asked by Football Insider's Charlotte Cohen for his assessment of McTominay's performance on Sunday, McAvennie said: "My thoughts on half the team, the boys are not good enough.
"Some of them are not good enough to play for Man United. It’s alright doing it in pre-season but they haven’t been doing it in the Premier League.
"Fred, McTominay, for me they’re not good enough for Man United. I’m not saying they’re not good players but Man United is a huge club. For McTominay and Fred to be a mainstay in that team is criminal."
McTominay played 37 games for Ten Hag's side across all competitions last season.
During those outings the Scotland international scored two goals and provided one assist.
