Sean Dyche sack: 'Everton position now untenable' after 'fans turn'

Sean Dyche's position at Everton is becoming "untenable" amid growing pressure of the sack from the supporters at Goodison Park.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the boss is "swimming against the tide" in his efforts to keep his job.

Everton have won just three of their 19 Premier League games so far this season, and just eight of their last 40 league games overall, leading to questions about Dyche's position.

Meanwhile, the Toffees have scored just one goal from open play in their last ten games, leaving supporters frustrated at their lack of attacking prowess.

The likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have often shouldered the blame for their lack of clinical finishing in front of goal, but that focus has now turned to Dyche's management.

While the boss has credit in the bank for the way he dealt with the club's behind-the-scenes and financial issues, recent results have not been good enough.

Increasing pressure from the stands has come shortly after The Friedkin Group completed their takeover, adding to the feeling that the boss could soon be dismissed.

Brown previously told Football Insider that pressure from fans could force the new owners into a decision as they will want to establish a positive early relationship.

Now, the former chief scout who has worked closely with the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Ron Atkinson and David Moyes, has insisted that while Dyche deserves praise for the job he has done at Goodison Park, he has fallen into a difficult position.

"His position is becoming untenable, I'm afraid," he told Football Insider.

"You get to a point where you've been swimming against the tide for too long and it ultimately becomes a bit too much.

"I'm not saying he isn't capable of resisting pressure from the stands and turning things around, but it's a difficult situation when the supporters start to turn.

"Especially with new owners coming in, they'll want to make sure the supporters are on side.

"Often, when you start to lose the support from the crowd, that's what influences the decision.

"Dyche has done an excellent job there, especially dealing with the various problems they've had at Everton,

"So I find it difficult to say 'Yep, his time is up'.

"He's done everything asked of him, and there's been very little backing for him, but there's no denying recent results haven't been good enough.

"He is the one who has to pick up the bill and you could blame a number of issues on why they have struggled, but like I say, when the fans start to turn, it's difficult to come back from that."
