COMMENT

Sam Allardyce will be confident going into the game with Swansea City on Monday having not tasted defeat with Everton, but there's one change he needs to make to his team.

The Toffees were successful in their last outing against Newcastle United at St James Park, with Wayne Rooney grabbing the only goal of the game.

However, there is one change that the Everton boss should have made in order to improve his side's attacking threat against the Magpies, and it's the same change needed against Swansea City.

The Swans go into this game bottom of the league, having lost their last league game 4-0 to Manchester City.

Swansea City will be boosted by the knowledge of their excellent record at Goodison Park – they've not lost in their last three visits.

The last meeting between the sides ended 1-0 in Swansea's favour, with Fernando Llorente getting the only goal of the game.

Everton fans will be hoping to reverse the statistics though tonight and Allardyce can ensure it if he picks the right team.

Goalkeeper and defence

Jordan Pickford (Goalkeeper) - Jordan Pickford continues to be a key player for Everton and should start for the Toffees whenever available.

Cuco Martina (Left-back) - The defender has adapted well to playing out of position, and deserves to keep his place in the team.

Ashley Williams (Centre-back) - The defender is back to his old self under Allardyce and his experience is needed against a Swansea team who are looking to cause an upset.

Mason Holgate (Centre-back) - After impressing in his last four league outings, the young defender should stay in the team despite Phil Jagielka being closer to 100% fitness.

Jonjoe Kenny (Right-back) - One of the bright lights in the Toffees' season when they were struggling, and the defender has continued to put in accomplished performances, should start on Monday.

Midfielders

Ademola Lookman (Left-midfielder) - The pacey winger looked lively in Everton's last Europa League game, and his speed would cause the Swansea City defence to have nightmares. The 20-year-old should start in place of the much-criticised Morgan Schneiderlin.

Wayne Rooney (Centre-midfielder) - The veteran has been among the goals in recent games, but flourishes playing deeper on the pitch. Rooney's passes create opportunities for his faster teammates and he is needed against Swansea City.

Idrissa Gueye (Centre-midfielder) - The unsung hero of the season stabilises Everton's midfield while giving the defence extra cover. Gueye has an important role against Swansea, if he's able to stop their early attacks developing they will lose confidence fast.

Aaron Lennon (Right-midfielder) - The midfielder has enjoyed a good run in the first team as of late and has done nothing to suggest he should be dropped for the Swansea clash.

Forwards

Gylfi Sigurdsson (Attacking midfielder) - The midfielder returns to his old club where he has arguably had his best moments in football. With him playing just behind the striker, Sigurdsson should be able to get among the goals on Monday.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Striker) - This is an important game for the youngster, with the club constantly linked with moves for strikers in January, his opportunities to impress are running out. The striker has shown how useful he is when Everton are up against it, like the Liverpool game, but he needs to showcase his ability to punish sides weaker than the Toffees.
