Sheffield United are not expected to let playmaker Luke Freeman leave this month amid interest from Leeds United, Football Insider can reveal.

The Yorkshire giants are in the market for attacking talent after Eddie Nketiah and Jack Clarke were recalled from season-long loans at the halfway point by Arsenal and Tottenham respectively.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club are are keeping tabs on Freeman with a view to a loan move in the current window.

But a Sheffield United source explained that manager Chris Wilder is reluctant to allow the 27-year-old leave.

A deal is not expected to happen this month barring a change in circumstances before the 31 January cut-off.

Leeds also face major hurdles in their pursuit of first-choice centre-forward targets Che Adams and Dwight Gayle of Southampton and Newcastle United respectively.

Freeman has emerged on their radar as he has struggled for game time at Bramall Lane since signing from QPR last summer in a £5million deal.

He has made just three Premier League starts among 11 appearances for Wilder's side in all competitions.

The attacking midfielder has yet to open his goal or assist account for the top-flight outfit.

This is a far cry from his performances at QPR last season, when he was one of the outstanding attacking players in the Championship.

In 48 appearances for Rangers in 2018-19, Freeman scored nine goals and supplied eight assists.
