Outspoken former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has called on Aston Villa fans to remain patient with Steve Bruce while launching a dig at Birmingham after they sacked Harry Redknapp.

Aston Villa returned to winning ways by thumping Barnsley 3-0 at Oakwell on Saturday and while the game was in process it was announced that Blues had parted company with Redknapp following defeat to Preston.

Jordan has a long history of bigging up Villa while firing shots at their West Midlands rivals, and after Saturday's events the businessman was back on form on his personal Twitter account.

"Told you Aston Villa [fans]. Keep patient you will be fine with Brucey. As far as Birmingham, well. Good to see their natural level being maintained," he said.

An Albert Adomah brace and a second half strike from Keinan Davis gave Villa their first win of September at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon and just as the third goal was scored, Redknapp's sacking was announced.

Birmingham have won just one of their first eight games of the Championship season and are wedged in the relegation zone after they let slip of a lead to lose 3-1 at St. Andrew's against Preston.

Villa academy product Daniel Johnson scored before Jordan Hugill and Tom Barkhuizen rounded off the win for Preston, leading to Redknapp losing his job just over a month into the season.
