Sources: Bielsa 'exasperated' by Leeds update on O'Brien talks with Huddersfield
Marcelo Bielsa is "exasperated" Leeds United have yet to seal a breakthrough in Lewis O'Brien talks with the new season just two days away, Football Insider can reveal.
The United manager wanted the deal done for the central midfielder well ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign.
But Leeds' failure to do so is, a club source has told Football Insider, is "exasperating" and "frustrating" for Bielsa.
He had expected the club to pay up for O'Brien and make greater efforts to come to an agreement with Huddersfield.
The Championship outfit initially asked for more than £10million for the midfielder, while United's opening offer, which this site has learned was around £2-3million, was dismissed as derisory.
The Terriers will accept a seven-figure fee but the two clubs are still some way off an agreement.
Bielsa does not make huge transfer demands of Elland Road chiefs but one key stipulation is to get signings done with enough time for him to bed them in during pre-season.
United had hoped to recruit a new central midfielder weeks ago in accordance with Bielsa's wishes.
Football Insider revealed on 30th July that Leeds were in preliminary talks to sign O'Brien after missing out on Conor Gallagher.
Significantly, the Premier League club remain in talks over a deal and are hopeful of an agreement ahead of the window shutting this month.
One major factor in United's favour is that O'Brien wants to test himself in the Premier League and is "very keen" to join Marcelo Bielsa's squad if a deal can be done.
Leeds are running out of time for O'Brien to be signed in time for their season opener against Man United at lunchtime on Saturday.
The transfer would have to be registered with the Premier League by lunchtime on Friday for that to be the case.
O'Brien is out of contract at the Terriers next year, although they have the option to extend that deal by 12 months.
