Sources: Blackpool set to appoint Mick McCarthy until end of season
Blackpool are set to appoint Mick McCarthy as their new manager on Thursday in a deal running until the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.
The club have agreed to a deal with the 63-year-old to replace Michael Appleton, who was sacked on Wednesday afternoon after a run of 10 winless games.
McCarthy will take the hot seat at Bloomfield Road and take charge of the side for Saturday's Championship clash against Huddersfield.
The Tangerines currently sit 23rd in the Championship after picking up only 26 points in 27 matches this season.
The Blackpool job will be McCarthy's ninth managerial stint in his career, with his last spell in management coming at Cardiff City in 2021.
He lasted just 10 months with the Bluebirds before leaving via mutual consent after a poor run of results.
Prior to his Cardiff spell, McCarthy spent time at Cypriot club APOEL and the Republic of Ireland, with two six-year spells at Ipswich Town and Wolves before that.
McCarthy is familiar with the Championship after winning the league with Sunderland in 2004/05 as well as Wolves in 2008/09.
The experienced manager has also picked up six Championship Manager of the Month awards, with his latest coming in February 2021 following his brilliant start at Cardiff.
In over 1,000 matches as manager, McCarthy boasts a win rate of 38.56 per cent.
