Sources: Brenden Aaronson could agree Leeds loan ahead of 2024 transfer
Leeds United could sanction a loan exit for midfielder Brenden Aaronson following their relegation, sources have told Football Insider.
This site revealed on Friday (2 June) that the 22-year-old is “highly regarded” by a number of Bundesliga sides as the summer window approaches.
It is believed that a move to Germany could be an avenue available to Aaronson following his impressive spell at Red Bull Salzburg in neighbouring Austria.
As has been widely reported, the United States international has a relegation release clause in his Leeds contract – which has become active following the club’s demotion to the Championship.
But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that a loan exit could in fact suit all parties.
Leeds are unlikely to recoup the reported £25million fee they paid for Aaronson this summer after his low-key first season in English football.
It is believed a temporary exit could help boost his value ahead of a permanent move in 2024 - or give him the chance to return to the top flight if the Whites can secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
The player himself is keen to leave Elland Road as he has no desire to play in the Championship.
Aaronson, who earns a reported £45,000-a-week on a contract running until June 2027, managed just two goals and three assists in 41 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.
He was dropped to the bench following the late-season appointment of Sam Allardyce.
The future of his countryman and teammate Tyler Adams is also in doubt as the summer window approaches.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (3 June) that Leeds are likely to find it hard to keep hold of Adams as he is keen to play at the highest possible level.
The former RB Leipzig star is wanted by Man United.
