Brighton are prepared to go head-to-head with Man United to sign Davide Frattesi this season, sources have told Football Insider.

The Seagulls are in the market for a new central midfielder this summer and have identified the 23-year-old as a top target ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Roberto De Zerbi is braced to lose a number of key payers in the summer, with both Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister set to leave the club.

James Milner and Mahmoud Dahoud are expected to arrive at the Amex Stadium once the summer window opens, but the Italian boss is still looking for another midfielder to improve depth.

It is understood that United are among a number of other clubs that also have a strong interest in signing Frattesi this summer, but Brighton are prepared to compete for his signature using funds gained from player sales.

Frattesi has been everpresent for Sassuolo this season, appearing in all of their 36 Serie A fixtures this season.

He has scored seven times for the Italian outfit this season to help them reach 13th in the league table with two matches remaining in the calendar.

Frattesi has spent the entirety of his career at Sassuolo, first reaching the senior team in 2017 after impressing at Roma's academy as a youngster.

Overall, Frattesi has made 76 appearances for the Italian side, scoring 11 and assisting four goals.
