Celtic winger Manny Perez is heading back to the club this month but his return is set to be a short one, Football Insider understands.

The USA Under-20 international joined the Scottish giants in January but immediately headed to to American club North Carolina on a year-long loan.

That expires this month following the completion of the USL season - the second division in the States - and Celtic are set to assess their player at close quarters when he heads to Glasgow.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club expect to secure another loan move for the versatile 20-year-old in the January window.

That is most likely to be back to his native America, although there is hope an MLS club can be found for the rising star.

Perez completed the season at North Carolina a fortnight ago as a regular member of the starting XI on the right wing.

In 22 appearances, the American supplied four assists for his loan club although he did not open his scoring account.

He had returned to Celtic midway through the US season after suffering an injury that sidelined him for more than two months, but that was solely to aid with his rehabilitation.

The Hoops do not regard Perez as ready yet of challenging for a place in their first-team squad.

He signed a three-and-a-half year contract in the last winter window that runs until the summer of 2022, but the club believe he needs to gain more experience on loan before making his home in Glasgow.
