Everton are lining up a move for Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter, Football Insider understands.

The 46-year-old is on the club's shortlist of potential candidates as they begin their search for a replacement for Rafael Benitez.

An Everton source has told Football Insider that the club are planning to sound out Potter about his interest in taking over as their new manager.

Other candidates in the frame include the Belgium manager Roberto Martinez, who is believed to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

It will likely take a multi-million pound compensation fee for Potter to be prised from Brighton, where his deal runs until the summer of 2025.

The former Swansea City boss initially joined on a four-year contract in the summer of 2019 before signing a two-year extension just six months into the job.

That provides some protection for Brighton from rival clubs trying to lure their manager, whose reputation has soared during his three seasons in the Premier League.

Intriguingly, Potter was considered by Everton last summer when they were assessing potential candidates to replace Carlo Ancelotti following his departure to Real Madrid.

Former director of football Marcel Brands is believed to have strongly pushed for the appointment of Potter, the source explained.

Now Everton are once again considering the man who has helped Brighton punch above their weight this season.

The south-coast club are ninth in the Premier League table with an impressive 28 points from 20 matches.
