Ex-Man City chief executive Garry Cook is in talks to join Birmingham City, sources have told Football Insider
The 65-year-old was spotted sitting alongside new owner Tom Wagner for the side's Championship clash against Sheffield United on Monday (8 May).
It is understood that Cook and Wagner discussed a potential executive position which would see him join a newly-formed Birmingham hierarchy.
Birmingham City released an official club statement on Monday announcing that Wagner's company Shelby Companies Limited had completed a takeover and will now own 45.64% of the club as well as all of the St. Andrews Stadium.
EFL chiefs are currently ratifying Wagner's takeover of the club, and the American is already planning changes behind the scenes in the Birmingham boardroom by holding talks with Cook.
Cook was born in Birmingham but moved to the United States early in his career and built a number of business connections working for Nike.
He is best remembered in English football for his spell at City during the early years of the Shiekh Mansour era.
Cook was appointed City CEO in 2008 under owner Thaksin Shinawatra and remained on the board following the Abu Dhabi takeover and the appointment of Khaldoon Al Mubarak as chairman.
He was tasked with player recruitment during his time at the Etihad Stadium and was responsible for the signings of Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Robinho among others.
Cook spent three years at the Manchester club before departing in 2011.
