Huddersfield Town are in talks over a move for Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith before Tuesday's transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.
Smith, 28, is the third-choice keeper at Forest behind Dean Henderson and Wayne Hennessey - and he has not made a first-team appearance this season.
Forest could be open to letting the shot-stopper leave if they bring in a new goalkeeper, with Steve Cooper's side still working on signing Paris Saint-Germain star Keylor Navas to fill in for the injured Henderson.
Huddersfield have been searching for a new goalkeeper all month after losing first-choice keeper Lee Nicholls to a shoulder injury.
The Terriers have now turned their attention to sealing a loan move for Smith.
He has been on the books at Nottingham Forest since making the grade as a professional but has managed just 54 appearances for the club.
Smith's longest run in the sticks for the Midlands giants came in the 2017-18 season when he conceded 46 goals and kept seven clean sheets in 29 Championship appearances.
He went on loan for the second half of the 2018-19 season to Mansfield Town - keeping three clean sheets in 12 League Two games.
The shot-stopper has just five months left to run on his contract at the City Ground after signing a one-year extension last year (2022).
Nottingham Forest are four points clear of relegation danger in the Premier League ahead of their clash with Leeds United on Sunday (5 February).
Meanwhile, Huddersfield are three points from safety in the Championship as they prepare to face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday (4 February).
