Tottenham target James Maddison is "almost certain" to leave Leicester City this summer following their relegation, sources have told Football Insider.

This site revealed on Wednesday (31 May) that Spurs are hopeful of beating off interest from Arsenal and Newcastle to seal a deal for the 26-year-old.

Tottenham want to bring Maddison in despite not yet appointing a manager or director of football ahead of the summer transfer window.

The England international is set to become one of the hottest properties in English football following Leicester’s relegation to the Championship.

Another factor in a potential switch is Maddison's perilous contract situation.

He is out of contract at the King Power Stadium in just over 12 months – meaning the Foxes risk losing him for free in 2024 if they don’t sell this summer.

According to FBRef, Maddison earns a weekly wage of £110,000 at Leicester.

He notched 10 goals and nine assists in 30 Premier League games during the 2022-23 campaign and even wore the Foxes armband on occasion.

The two-cap international is keen to remain in the top flight as he looks to preserve his place in Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad ahead of the European Championships next year.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (6 May) that up to ten Foxes stars could quit in the off-season – including Harvey Barnes, who is also wanted by Tottenham.
