Josh McPake’s Rangers future is hanging in the balance with his Queen’s Park loan taking another turn for the worse, sources have told Football Insider.

McPake, 21, wasn’t even named in the squad for last Friday’s 1-0 win over Hamilton.

The winger still has a year left on his Ibrox contract but the fact he is struggling to make an impact at Championship level will leave Rangers bosses with a major headache going into the summer.

His move to Queen's Park started well and he played his part in getting them into the promotion hunt but he has dramatically dropped down the pecking order in recent months.

The midfielder has failed to start in less than half Queen’s Park’s games this season, making just seven starts since the turn of the year.

The 21-year-old is now on his sixth loan away from Ibrox and now Rangers and McPake look to have a big decision looming come the end of the season.

Performances and off field issues in the second half of the season have curtailed what was a positive start and McPake may need to follow in footsteps of Kai Kennedy by taking a drop to the Championship.

Rangers

McPake has made just one appearance for the Rangers first team since his progression to the senior side last summer.

During his time with the B team he has made just three appearances for the Glasgow club's youth side as a result of having spent most of his career out on loan.
