Sources: Major development in race to sign Rhian Brewster in January
German big guns Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach have joined the race to sign Rhian Brewster from Liverpool in January, Football Insider can reveal.
A Europe-wide battle for the striker, 19, has started ahead of the forthcoming transfer window after Jurgen Klopp gave the green light for him to go out on loan to get more senior experience.
A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that top German clubs Dortmund and Monchengladbach want Brewster after he came close to making a permanent move to the Bundesliga last year.
He was on the verge of joining Monchengladbach before a late intervention from Klopp persuaded him to sign a new Liverpool contract.
Klopp and the Anfield recruitment team are expected to make a decision on where Brewster will play for the second half of the season after Liverpool's League Cup quarter-final clash against Aston Villa in the middle of this month.
The runaway Premier League leaders have already fielded multiple enquiries from rival top-flight clubs as well as leading ones in the Championship.
The final decision will be dependent upon which of Brewster's many suitors, who include Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leeds United, are willing to offer a key role.
Football Insider broke the news a fortnight ago that Klopp is open to loan offers for Brewster in the winter window.
The manager believes the rising star needs more match experience after making just two appearances for the first team in his fledgling career.
He has been earmarked to play in an inexperienced Liverpool side that will take on Villa in the League Cup on 17 December, 24 hours before what is expected to be the first team play in the Club World Cup.
Klopp has made no secret of his admiration of Brewster, who he regards as capable of establishing himself in the first team just like another academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The forward has an outstanding record for Liverpool and England at age-group level, although a serious injury robbed him of a year of his career and he is only now getting back to full playing capacity.
