Liverpool have reignited their interest in Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook following his return to action, Football Insider understands.

The 22-year-old was on the radar of the Merseyside giants when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last December.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club's recruitment team are set to keep close tabs on Cook this season as they assess his recovery from injury.

The England international is regarded as a player with the attitude, energy and pedigree to be a long-term replacement for veteran midfielder James Milner, who turns 34 in January and is out of contract at the end of the season.

Cook made his first appearance in 10 months last weekend as Bournemouth defeated Everton 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium.

The Leeds United academy product played 77 minutes in central midfield alongside summer signing Philip Billing, with Eddie Howe enthusing about him afterwards.

The Cherries manager claimed claimed he had never seen a player run as much as Cook did during his rehab after the midfielder capped his return with a standout display.

Cook had established himself as a key player in Howe's side when he broke down last December, with eight starts in nine league matches up to the point of his injury.

Signed from Leeds in 2016 for an initial £6million, the central midfielder has made 57 appearances for Bournemouth after making a name for himself at Elland Road during 85 matches by the age of 19.
