Sources: Lowe quits Plymouth Argyle and agrees to be new Preston North End boss
Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe has agreed to become the new Preston North End manager, Football Insider has learned.
The 43-year-old has decided to quit League One high flyers Argyle to head to the Championship outfit.
A Preston source has told Football Insider that an agreement is in place for Lowe to replace the sacked Frankie McAvoy at the helm.
Preston had also been keen on Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth but were put off by the compensation costs.
McAvoy was handed the Deepdale job permanently after impressing during an interim spell at the end of last season, winning five from eight games.
However, a run of poor results saw Preston chiefs dispense with the Scotsman.
The Lancashire side are 18th in the Championship table, nine points clear of the relegation zone.
Liverpool-born Lowe has earned many plaudits with his Plymouth side - defying all expectations to sit fourth in League One.
The Devon side sat top of the third tier as recently as 20 November.
However, a run of three defeats has seen them slip into the playoff places.
Lowe has had great success with his 3-5-2 system this term and has earned praise from Jurgen Klopp for his "gung-ho" approach.
The 43-year-old also has a proven track record of earning promotions, emerging from League Two with Bury and Plymouth.
Preston's next fixture is a home clash against fellow strugglers Barnsley on Saturday (11 December).
