Luton Town are in advanced talks to sign Barnsley goalkeeper Jack Walton, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hatters are keen to bring in a new keeper to provide cover and competition for first-choice keeper Ethan Hovarth.

The Championship club have lined up a deal for Walton are negotiations are progressing well ahead of Tuesday's transfer cut-off.

Walton, 24, has made just nine appearances for Barnsley this season, with only one coming as a starter in League One.

Brad Collins has been the Barnsley number one this season and the club are happy to let Walton move on as he is in the final six months of his contract at Oakwell.

During the 2021/22 season, Walton made just ten appearances for Barnsley across all competitions and kept just one clean sheet in those outings.

As a result, the Championship outfit currently have just one backup goalkeeper in 25-year-old Harry Isted as James Shea, 31, is currently sidelined with a long-term knee injury.

Luton are currently seventh in the English second tier and have won five of their last seven matches, with just three points between them and third placed Middlesbrough.

After a 2-2 draw in the FA Cup fourth round yesterday (28 January), Luton will face Grimsby Town in a replay to battle it out for a spot in the next stage.
