Macclesfield manager Alex Bruce has left his role to join Salford City as assistant manager, sources have told Football Insider.

Bruce, who is the son of Premier League legend Steve, will join Karl Robinson as part of the coaching staff at Moor Lane.

The 39-year-old had only taken the Macclesfield job in October 2023, succeeding Mark Duffy in the hot seat.

The Northern Premier League Premier Division side sit fifth in the table, just inside the playoff places - with a one-point buffer to sixth-place Worksop Town.

He also led the club to the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy, where they will host Coalville Town.

Bruce's appointment at Macclesfield was his first in senior management since retiring at the club in 2022.

The former Hull City, Ipswich Town and Leeds United defender has also been part of the coaching staff at West Brom during his father's time at The Hawthorns.

Bruce is now set to return to a similar role at Salford, who appointed experienced EFL coach Robinson in January.

The Ammies sit 19th in League Two but have built a 16-point buffer to the relegation zone.

They are next in action against second-place Mansfield on Saturday (24 February).
