Newcastle United club captain Jamaal Lascelles will have a decision to make on his future this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the 29-year-old will have to leave St James' Park this summer to get first-team football.

It is believed opportunities will be hard to come by for Lascelles in the 2023-24 campaign despite the addition of Champions League fixtures to Newcastle's schedule.

Nonetheless, the defender remains an important figure on Tyneside and is a big influence in the dressing room.

Lascelles made just 11 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign following the arrival of Sven Botman and Dan Burn in 2022.

He was named in the starting lineup on five occasions and managed a total of 463 minutes of action.

That involvement could be reduced even further with Newcastle plotting a move for a new centre-back this summer.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (3 July) that the Magpies are exploring a potential summer move for Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio.
