Sources: West Ham pursuit of Akor Adams hits stumbling block
West Ham have hit a stumbling block in their pursuit of Montpellier striker Akor Adams, sources have told Football Insider.
The Hammers have identified the 23-year-old forward as a top target ahead of the January transfer window, but a deal is proving very difficult to complete.
The Ligue 1 side are determined to not lose such a key player halfway through the season, meaning a summer move is far more likely.
Montpellier currently sit 12th in the league table but are not safe from relegation with just four points separating them from Toulouse in 16th.
Adams has scored seven goals in 17 appearances this season, making him the joint-third-highest scorer in Ligue 1 alongside former Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette. [BBC]
Adams moved to Montpellier in the summer after impressing at Norwegian side Lillestrom with 28 goals in 50 total appearances.
David Moyes has made a new striker a priority for West Ham's recruitment team in January, with the Londoners also monitoring Stuttgart striker Serhou Guissary.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (30 December) that West Ham are prepared to go head-to-head with Man United for Guissary's signature in January.
It is understood that Guirassy is available for £18million next month due to a release clause inserted in his contract.
Moyes is keen to add depth to his striking department with Michail Antonio currently sidelined with a knee injury and Danny Ings struggling for form having not scored yet this season.
