Sources: Major update today on Dean Henderson's Man United future

Man United won't sanction a move for Dean Henderson until they resolve their goalkeeper situation, sources have told Football Insider.

Nottingham Forest are pushing hard to get a permanent deal done for Henderson but are growing frustrated by the delay.

United are holding out on deciding the future of the 26-year-old after David de Gea's exit following the expiration of his contract.

The Red Devils had offered a new deal to De Gea following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

But, Football Insider revealed (30 June), that the Manchester club pulled out of the deal and offered reduced terms at the eleventh hour amid plans to add a new first-choice goalkeeper.

Manager Erik ten Hag is believed to have lost trust in the Spaniard following a string of high profile mistakes last season.

Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is top of the list for United as they look for a new first choice shot stopper, as revealed by Football Insider (1 July).

Henderson's current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025 but has spent the majority of his time at the Manchester giants out on loan.

Henderson did spend the 2020-21 season with United but was second choice to David de Gea and struggled for game time.

Following a disappointing campaign, the keeper publicly shared his disappointment and said he was "fuming" at United for preventing another loan spell and said he "wasted" a year of his career sitting on the sidelines.

The England international joined Steve Cooper's side last summer and enjoyed a lengthy run in the side before a thigh problem in January kept him sidelined for the second half of the season.
