Sources: Man City plan to let Zack Steffen leave
Man City are planning to let backup goalkeeper Zack Steffen leave the club in 2024, sources have told Football Insider.
The 28-year-old has no long-term future at the club after knee injury troubles in recent months.
Steffen is currently out of contract in June 2025 and will not be offered an extension at the Etihad Stadium.
The United States international remains out of action after undergoing knee surgery at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
Regardless, the shot-stopper is behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega in the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.
Steffen spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough - who saw their promotion hopes ended by a playoff semi-final defeat against Coventry.
He made 45 appearances across all competitions in a Boro shirt, keeping 10 clean sheets and conceding 56 goals.
The 28-year-old has made just 21 competitive appearances for Man City since arriving in 2019 - most of which have come in cup competitions.
Steffen played 90 minutes in every round as Pep Guardiola's side lifted the League Cup in the 2020-21 campaign.
The Pennsylvania-born ace has amassed 29 caps for the United States but last played for his country in March 2022.
He has since been replaced between the sticks by Nottingham Forest shot-stopper Matt Turner.
Man City, who have started Ederson in all but one Premier League game this term, sit top of the league but have played once more than Tottenham.
Guardiola's side are next in action against Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday (7 November).
