Man United have opened preliminary talks with Bayern Munich over the signing of defender Benjamin Pavardsources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants are in the market for a new right-back and have made the France international, 27, a top target in the final weeks of the window.

United have made contact with Bayern over a potential deal after learning that Pavard is keen to move to the Premier League.

The Frenchman is believed to have told the German giants he wants to be sold before the window shuts.

However, Pavard is also of strong interest to United's neighbours Man City, who have come close to losing Kyle Walker to Bayern this summer.

Pavard's versatility in defence would help to bolster Erik ten Hag's squad, with centre-back Harry Maguire on the brink of an Old Trafford exit this summer.

Pavard made 43 appearances for Bayern in 2022/23, playing both centrally and on the right flank for the German outfit.

He scored seven goals and provided one assist during his 3,371 minutes of first-team action last season.

The French international first made his move to Bayern in 2019 following an impressive three-year stint in Germany with VFB Stuttgart.

During his four years at the Allianz Arena, Pavard has been a serial winner, lifting four league titles, the Champions League, Fifa Club World Cup and the Uefa Supercup.
