Middlesbrough are in talks to sign Wolves winger Ryan Giles on loan, Football Insider understands.

The 22-year-old spent last season out on loan at Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers last season and impressed during his two stints away from Molineux.

A Boro source has told Football Insider that manager Chris Wilder has targeted Giles to play in the left wing-back role in his side next season.

He is unlikely to break into Bruno Lage’s first XI next term and the Championship club are now working on a deal to lure him to the Riverside.

The versatile winger caught the eye during his two separate loan spells during the 2021/22 season.

He contributed nine assists in 29 games for Cardiff in the first half of the campaign before joining Blackburn in January.

Giles turned out 11 times during his time at Ewood Park, with one assist under his belt.

With a first-team role at Wolves unlikely next season, Boro are hopeful of luring him back to the Championship this summer.

Manager Wilder is keen to utilise him in a wing-back role, having implemented a 3-5-2 formation since his arrival.

The Telford-born talent featured as a left-back for Cardiff on occasion, while he has also been deployed in midfield roles.

A graduate of Wolves' youth ranks, Giles has made just one senior appearance for the club to date.

He started and played 72 minutes in an FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town in January 2019.

The winger joined the Shrews on loan in July 2019, while he has also had temporary spells at Coventry City and Rotherham United.
