Hull City are ready to loan out former Brighton star James Furlong in January with Motherwell and several League One and League Two clubs keen, sources have told Football Insider.

The 21-year-old left-back has yet to make an appearance for the Tigers this season since his summer arrival from the Seagulls.

Liam Rosenior's side are happy to let the Irishman depart temporarily so he can earn some regular first-team action in the second half of the campaign.

Clubs from England's third and fourth tier have expressed their interest in signing Furlong, while Motherwell are keeping close tabs on their former loanee.

The defender enjoyed a successful spell at the Scottish side in the second half of last season.

He started 15 out of his 16 appearances for the Steelmen and notched three assists in the process.

Furlong joined Hull permanently from Brighton for an undisclosed fee after making just one senior appearance for them in the closing stages of an EFL Cup tie against Forest Green Rovers last season.

He has featured regularly throughout the youth sides for the Republic of Ireland, with his most recent appearance coming for the under-21s in their European Championship qualification clash against Latvia.

Motherwell sit 11th in the Scottish top flight after their 2-0 defeat to Rangers on Christmas Eve and next face Livingston at home on Saturday (30 December).

Hull are seventh in the Championship and next play Blackburn Rovers at home on Friday (29 December).
