Sources: New Anfield deadline revealed after Liverpool stadium twist
The Anfield Road expansion at Liverpool isn’t set to open at full capacity until December, sources have told Football Insider.
Liverpool have appointed new contractors to the project after the Buckingham Group filed for administration last month.
All work on the stadium had halted as a result, but a deal has now been struck with Rayner Rowen Construction.
Liverpool published a statement revealing that the new construction group had been appointed alongside other contractors as they push to complete the final stages of the project.
While work continues on the new stand, Liverpool confirmed that Anfield will continue to run at a reduced capacity for a minimum of the next three home games against West Ham, Leicester City and Union Saint-Gilloise.
Official attendances for the home games against Bournemouth and Aston Villa this season were 49,699 and 50,109.
A phased opening of the stand is set to begin in October before the increased capacity of 61,200 is opened to fans fully in December.
Work on the Anfield Road project began in September 2021, meaning the stand will have been under construction for over two years by the time of its opening.
Liverpool posted matchday revenues of £86million in the 2021/22 season, but that figure is expected to grow significantly once Liverpool’s new stand is opened.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire told Football Insider in June that Liverpool’s matchday revenue could grow to over £100million as a result of their stadium expansion.
