Newcastle United are planning to sell Miguel Almiron this summer, Football Insider understands.

But the north-east giants are willing to sell him at a loss as they look to free up space in their squad and on their wage bill.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that club chiefs have decided they will let former £21million club-record signing Almiron go as part of a major summer overhaul.

It is said that £15m is likely to be enough to secure the signature of the 28-year-old Paraguay international.

His contract at St James’ Park runs until the summer of 2024.

Almiron was a key player under Rafael Benitez and Steve Bruce but he has seen his minutes limited under Eddie Howe.

He has only started five of Howe's 18 games in charge though he was in from the start for the Magpies' last two league games.

The forward has failed to score or register an assist this season with his attacking output constantly under the microscope at St James' Park.

It took Almiron almost 12 months to register his first goal for the club, with his late strike against Crystal Palace on 21 December 2019 breaking his duck.

He has since scored 13 goals with four of those coming in Newcastle's run to the FA Cup quarter-finals last season.

Almiron has made 115 appearances for Newcastle.

Newcastle are next in action after the international break against Tottenham on 3 April.

The Magpies are unbeaten during their two previous visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
