Nottingham Forest and Burnley are battling it out to sign AC Milan forward Divock Origi before Friday night's (1 September) transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League duo are in talks to land the former Liverpool favourite in a last-gasp deal.

Origi has been told by Milan he can leave on deadline day with a return to the English top flight a strong possibility.

Liverpool

The proven Premier League and Champions League striker, 28, has impressive pedigree at the highest level, with a track record of important goals at crucial times.

Milan are ready to offload the 28-year-old after a difficult start to life in Italy and head coach Stefano Pioli's long term plans for the club do not include Origi.

Last season Origi managed just two goals and one assist in 36 appearances for the Serie A giants and was in the starting lineup for just ten of those outings.

Burnley

Burnley are in need of attacking reinforcements after a difficult start on their return to life in the top flight.

Vincent Kompany's side have lost both of their opening games of the season but progressed to the next round of the League Cup after a 1-0 win over Forest who are also keen to add Origi to their ranks.
