There will be a fire sale at Nottingham Forest this summer if they are relegated from the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.

After achieving promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs last summer, Forest spent £152million rebuilding and bolstering their squad.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Emmanuel Dennis and Danilo all arrived at the City Ground for large fees, but would face an uncertain future at Forest should the club be demoted to the Championship.

Relegation would be considered a disaster scenario among the Forest board, with ambitious owner Evangelos Marinakis wanting to cement Forest as regular top-10 finishers in the Premier League.

However, Forest are aware that they would suffer massive changes to their playing squad should Steve Cooper not steer them clear of relegation this season.

Forest added an unprecedented 30 players to their squad since earning promotion, and the board understand that they'd have to significantly thin the squad to lower the wage bill for the Championship.

After a poor start to the season, Forest slumped to the bottom of the table, piling pressure on Cooper to turn things around.

Forest have since climbed to 14th in the standings after an upturn of form, but remain just four points clear of the bottom three positions with a game in hand.
