Cardiff City have joined the chase for Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers target Abel Hernandez, Football Insider sources understand.

Premier League new boys Cardiff are searching for a new striker this summer and they are ready to move for free agent Hernandez.

Hernandez is one of the most in-demand free agents around this summer after seeing out his contract at Hull City at the end of last season.

Hernadez endured a difficult season last term because of injury, but still managed to score eight goals in 10 Championship games.

Leeds have been strongly linked with a move for Hernandez, while Wolves have also been credited with an interest in the Uruguay international as they prepare for life in the Premier League next season.

Now Cardiff are preparing to enter the race for the 27-year-old as Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock looks to bring in a proven striker to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season.

Hernandez is also attracting interest from clubs from abroad, but Cardiff are hoping the chance to play in the Premier League may be enough to persuade the forward to stay in the UK.
