Craig Gordon has decided to stay at Celtic until at least January after weighing up his future this summer, Football Insider has learned.

The Hoops goalkeeper, 36, lost his place to Scott Bain after the club's Old Firm defeat last December and did not play in the second half of last season.

A source with knowledge of Gordon's situation has told Football Insider the veteran has decided to remain at Parkhead at least until the next window after deliberating long and hard over his situation over recent months.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in May that the veteran was unhappy at slipping down the pecking order and told friends he was weighing up whether or not to see out the final year of his contract.

Gordon has remained on the bench for Celtic's three Champions League qualifiers in the new campaign, with Bain selected ahead of him.

But manager Neil Lennon has revealed that the Glasgow giants will start with Gordon in goal tonight against Nomme Kalju in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier after holding a 5-0 lead from the first leg.

The Northern Irishman also gave the former Scotland number one some hope that he can regain the starting shirt by insisting that he does not regard distribution ability to be as import as his predecessor Brendan Rodgers.

Nevertheless, Gordon was the first choice for virtually the entire Rodgers' reign, a favourite of the former manager's, and has been an integral member of the nine-in-a-row league winners as well as the treble treble.

The former Sunderland keeper has made 236 appearances in his five years at Parkhead after reigniting his career following severe knee problems that led to him taking a two-year break from the game.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that a player is poised to quit Parkhead in an astonishing deal worth £45million in total.
