Bristol City striker Rodri is set to leave the club next week ahead of his contract expiring this month, Football Insider understands.

Rodri, 29, only joined the Championship club in October on a free transfer after leaving Granada last summer.

A City source has told Football Insider that manager Lee Johnson has decided not to take up the option clause in the centre-forward's contract.

Bristol City had signed the Spanish forward on a short-term deal until January with the option to extend it.

His departure will accelerate Johnson's search for striking reinforcements for his team before the close of the transfer window on 31 January.

Johnson is looking for more than just one new striker to replace Rodri.

The former Spain Under-21 international made only six appearances for Bristol City after his arrival.

Only one of those came in the starting XI, in late October, with his last appearance coming as a sub in the New Year's Day 4-0 mauling at the hands of Brentford.

Rodri's first-team opportunities were also frustrated by a foot injury, but both now both parties will move on when his contract expires next week.

News of Rodri's availability on a free transfer has alerted a number of other clubs in England and in his native Spain.

They are ready to make a move for the former Sheffield Wednesday and Sevilla man.
