Sheffield United and Brighton have made approaches to sign West Brom winger Matt Phillips, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League duo are keen to beat top-flight new boys Aston Villa to the capture of the 28-year-old, whose future is in doubt in the final 10 days of the summer window.

United and Brighton sources have told Football Insider that the clubs have both registered their interest in landing Phillips by the 8 August cut-off.

Phillips has emerged as a player in demand as he has entered the final year of his Baggies contract and there has been no indication he will commit to an extension.

The attacker has extensive Premier League experience, both for West Brom and at his former club QPR, and is a proven scorer and creator of goals.

The 14-times Scotland international is understood to be keen to return to the English top flight and the interest from three leading clubs suggests West Brom face a major battle to hang on to him.
