Sheffield United are in advanced talks to sign ex-Leeds United star Ronaldo Vieira, Football Insider understands.

The Championship outfit are working on a deal to land the central midfielder from Sampdoria.

A United source has told Football Insider that the club are discussing taking Vieira on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old was sold by Marcelo Bielsa in his first transfer window at Leeds in the summer of 2018.

Vieira has so far made 44 appearances for Sampdoria but none of them came last season.

He found opportunities hard to come by during the early stages of last season and opted for a loan move to Hellas Verona in October.

However, injuries to his hamstring and biceps kept him sidelined for large swathes of his loan spell.

As a result, he only made four appearances for Verona.

During his first two seasons in Italy, Vieira struggled to hold down a starting spot.

He was often used as a substitute before a run of starts was cruelly ended by a knee injury.

Vieira does have extensive Championship experience, making 63 appearances in the competition for Leeds.

Sheffield United are looking to replace John Lundstram, who left the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer.

He has since linked up with Steven Gerrard at Rangers.

The Blades are yet to make any first-team additions this summer.

The big arrival at Bramall Lane has been Slavisa Jokanovic as he replaced Chris Wilder.
