Sheffield United are lining up a move to beat Rangers to League One top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris, Football Insider can reveal.

Peterborough United's top scorer has found the net 28 times this season to spearhead their promotion push.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider the relegated Premier League club want Clarke-Harris to spearhead their own bid for instant promotion next season.

Sheffield United will also be in the market for firepower after their dreadful Premier League campaign.

The Blades have scored just 17 goals in 32 Premier League games this season and £23.5million summer signing Rhian Brewster is yet to find the net.

Clarke-Harris is the latest in a long list of top strikers to pass through London Road.

The 26-year-old arrived from Bristol Rovers for a £1.25million last summer after Ivan Toney was sold to Brentford despite interest from Rangers.

Toney has scored 29 goals in 40 Championship games this term and Sheffield United will be hoping Clarke-Harris can do the same.

Peterborough have a long history of securing good money for strikers that include Dwight Gayle, Jack Marriott, Britt Assombalonga, Craig Mackail-Smith and Conor Washington.

Clarke-Harris spent a season at Peterborough earlier on in his career but did not make an appearance for the Posh.

He spent three seasons in the Championship with Rotherham United and scored nine goals in 57 games.
