Aston Villa are planning to let Ludwig Augustinsson go at the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-back, 28, joined the Midlands outfit in July on a season-long loan deal from Sevilla.

But he has struggled for game time with Lucas Digne firmly established as the first-choice left-sided defender at the club.

Villa have no plans to convert Augustinsson’s loan into a permanent deal at this stage.

They are assessing potential left-back options for next season, and have instructed scouts to shortlist targets.

Augustinsson has only started one Premier League game for Villa this season.

He was in from the start for 2 October's 0-0 draw against Leeds United though he was taken off at halftime.

The defender was then unavailable for the rest of Steven Gerrard's reign with a hamstring injury but featured during the final seven minutes of Villa's last game before the World Cup, a 2-1 win over Brighton on 13 November.

Augustinsson was also used by Unai Emery from the start in Villa's League Cup loss to Manchester United on 10 November though the defence failed to impress, conceding four goals.

The defender only moved to Sevilla in the summer of 2021 but found himself on loan at Villa just 12 months later.

During his first season in La Liga, he only started nine times in La Liga as he was mainly used off the bench.
