Stoke City are interested in re-signing winger Rabbi Matondo from Schalke, Football Insider can reveal.

The Wales international, 20, signed for the Potters in January of this year from the German giants on a half-season loan.

A source has told Football Insider Stoke are keen on a new loan deal for Matondo after being impressed with how he finished 2020-21.

Fallen Giants Schalke were relegated from the Bundesliga last season and are planning to green light a new move for Matondo.

The blisteringly-quick attacker initially struggled for form and fitness before ending the season strongly with his displays against Nottingham Forest, QPR and AFC Bournemouth.

He ended his spell with Stoke City with one goal in 11 games across all competitions, including five Championship starts.

The Potters ended the season in 14th-position, 18 points behind the play-off places as they won just one of their final six games.

Matondo's fine end to the season was not enough to earn him a place in Wales' squad for this summer's European Championships.

The Liverpool-born winger has eight national team caps under his belt.

Matondo moved to Schalke from Manchester City for a reported £9.6million fee in January 2019 in search of regular game time after failing to make his City senior debut.

He has made 32 appearances for Schalke, including 18 Bundesliga starts, and has found the net on two occasions.
