Everton have been approached by German side VfB Stuttgart over a move for Mason Holgate, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bundesliga side have enquired about taking the 27-year-old defender on loan until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Holgate joined the Saints on a loan deal in August, but he has failed to nail down a starting spot in Russell Martin's side.

He has made just seven appearances across all competitions while on loan, with his last Championship appearance coming in early November against West Brom.

Everton are keen to find Holgate a club willing to offer more regular first-team football and now have multiple options with both Stuttgart and Sheffield United willing to strike a deal.

While a deal with the Blades offers Holgate a return to Premier League action, Stuttgart currently sit third in the Bundesliga and are firmly in the race for Champions League qualification.

It also provides Everton with an option to give Holgate more regular football without strengthening a rival relegation candidate.

Sheffield United currently sit bottom of the Premier League table on just 10 points - eight below Everton.
