Sunderland, Fleetwood Town, Plymouth and Aberdeen are in the hunt to sign Rotherham defender Clark Robertson, Football Insider understands.

The 27-year-old Scot is out of contract next month and will be available on a free transfer this summer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Robertson has caught the eye of several Football League clubs.

Robertson made 11 Championship starts for the Millers this season but could not help the club avoid relegation.

He missed a large chunk of the campaign with a fractured foot but enjoyed a run in Paul Warne's side in the early months of 2021.

Speaking to the Star In March, Warne admitted Robertson's contract negotiations were "a bit sticky".

Following the club's relegation, Robertson now appears certain to leave.

The defender made 68 appearances for Aberdeen between 2009 and 2015 with his former club eyeing a reunion next season.

He also spent time at Blackpool before his move to the New York Stadium, making 137 appearances across three seasons.

Clark helped to secure the Seasiders' promotion back to League One in 2017 while barely missing a minute of league football.

However, he has not played since mid-April despite Rotherham's push for Championship safety.

The club were relegated straight back to League One despite a slight resurgence towards the end of the campaign.

Sunderland are preparing for their League One play-off campaign with Lincoln City standing in their away.
