Sources: Tottenham make decision to sell 'Most likely big name to go in January'
Tottenham are ready to sell Victor Wanyama in January and rate him the most likely of their big-name stars to move on, Football Insider understands.
The midfield powerhouse has made just one start for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season after coming close to joining Club Brugges in the summer.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club have made the decision to sell Wanyama, 28, and would prefer a permanent move to a loan for the second half of the campaign.
The Kenya international was the subject of interest from former club Celtic at the end of the summer window but his £65,000-a-week Spurs wages proved a sticking point.
Wanyama is among a group of senior players at Tottenham whose future at the club is up in the air following a dismal start to the season.
The source explained that the midfielder is "the most likely of the big names to go in January" as he is not in the team or even a regular in the squad.
This is in contrast to contract rebels Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, as well as exit-linked duo Danny Rose and Serge Aurier.
Tottenham are willing to offload after he pulled the plug on a move to Bruges at the eleventh hour when the club had agreed the terms of a deal following extensive negotiations.
He has been ravaged by injury, mainly knee problems, over the last two years and has slipped down the central midfield pecking order behind Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Eric Dier.
Wanyama has made just three appearances this season, two of them as a substitute in the Premier League and one as a League Cup starter.
He has failed to even make the sub's bench for Tottenham's last five Premier League and three Champions League games.
