Sources: Two Wolves transfers collapsed at last minute over 10 points deduction fears
Wolves called off plans to sign a striker over the January transfer window amid fears they would breach financial rules, sources have told Football Insider.
Gary O'Neil's side were concerned that a new arrival would put the club on the verge of breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.
It is understood that Wolves held talks over deals for both Yuri Alberto and Armando Broja but were unable to finalise a move due to their strict budget.
Both collapsed late in the window.
As revealed by Football Insider last month, Wolves were 'dangerously close' to breaching PSRs when their 2022-23 financial accounts were published.
If found guilty of a breach, Wolves could have faced a punishment similar to Everton's 10-point deduction in November.
The West Midlands side managed to avoid joining Everton and Nottingham Forest in breaching financial regulations, but they are still monitoring their transfer spend to stay within the allowable losses of £105million over three years.
Wolves announced losses of £46million in their 2021/22 accounts and club chairman Jeff Shi subsequently published a letter to fans back in August, explaining that they “must pay even closer attention to FFP and manage it well.”
Wolves were desperate to add to their attacking department over the January window with O'Neil having to rely on Jeanricner Bellegarde to lead the line on his own in recent weeks.
Hwang Hee-Chan is the club's current top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions this season, but the 28-year-old is currently away on international duty with South Korea.
