Ajax star Edson Alvarez has emerged as the top target to replace Declan Rice at West Ham, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed talks are ongoing with Alvarez's representatives - who have indicated the 25-year-old would be interested in a Premier League move.

The swoop for Alvarez comes after his potential move to Dortmund hit the rocks with talks collapsing at an advanced stage.

West Ham turned their attention to the Mexico international after being priced out of a move for Fulham star Joao Palhinha.

David Moyes' side are seeking a box-office replacement for captain Declan Rice, whose British-record move to Arsenal was made official last week.

Alvarez made 44 appearances across all competitions last term for Ajax, notching four goals and three assists.

He has proved a versatile option for the Dutch giants, playing both in holding midfield and at centre-back.

The 25-year-old has racked up 260 career appearances for Ajax and Club America and could now land a move to the Premier League.

He has also already amassed 69 caps for Mexico and has played for his country at two World Cups.

Alvarez's contract is set to expire in June 2025 after penning his last extension in October 2021.

West Ham

West Ham will play Europa League football in the 2023-24 campaign after winning the Europa Conference League last term.

The Irons kick off their Premier League campaign on 12 August with an away clash at Bournemouth.
