West Ham are plotting to reignite their bid to sign Chelsea playmaker Ross Barkley in the last week of this month's transfer window, Football Insider can reveal.

The Hammers have had a loan move for the England international rejected by their London and Premier League rivals.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider the club haven't given up hope of prising Barkley from Chelsea and will test the waters with a new move the week after next.

Manager David Moyes is a huge admirer of Barkley after nurturing during his days as Everton manager.

The attacking midfielder, 26, has been a fringe figure in Frank Lampard's new-look Chelsea side this season.

He has made just six Premier League starts among 11 appearances in all competitions and has been in disciplinary hot water for off-the-pitch issues.

West Ham are convinced a deal - a loan for the rest of the campaign - is possible later in the window when Chelsea will have a better idea of who will be in their squad post-January.

It remains to be seen whether Barkley is willing to push for a move to east London to secure more game time and be reunited with Moyes.

He has had a mixed time at Chelsea since signing from Everton in January 2018.

In 63 appearances for the club, the 33-times England international has scored seven goals and supplied six assists.
