This is how much Ivan Toney may have to 'sacrifice' to complete Tottenham move
Tottenham are the latest club to be linked with Ivan Toney as speculation continues around the striker potentially returning to the Premier League.
It is understood Tottenham are looking for a new striker in January following their inconsistent form in front of goal this season.
Football Insider revealed on 7 November Tottenham are willing to offload one of their forwards to agree a deal for the England international, who played under Thomas Frank at Brentford.
Everton are also interested in signing Toney, while West Ham are believed to be monitoring his situation in Saudi Arabia.
The 29-year-old joined Al-Ahli from Brentford for £40million in the summer of 2024.
Ivan Toney could face £5m blow to join Tottenham
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Toney could have to sacrifice £5m in tax savings to return to the Premier League.
It is believed Toney is “happy” in Saudi despite the speculation around his future.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “As I understand it, and I don't think there's many ways around this, if he comes back to the UK, a lot of the tax savings that he's made by being in Saudi Arabia will disappear.
“The tax benefit of having played in Saudi Arabia for the period that he has, so I don't know how important that will be to him.
“But you are talking literally about millions of pounds, so to come back he can expect to sacrifice millions.”
Toney was left out of the latest England squad, with the forward currently looking unlikely to be selected by Thomas Tuchel for the 2026 World Cup next summer.
Tottenham could pursue Toney loan deal
Borson insisted Toney is unlikely to sacrifice millions by returning to the Premier League in a bid to make the England squad.
“I mean, it could easily be £5m difference,” said Borson.
“So, do you want to come back for six months of trying to play well for Everton or West Ham, maybe Spurs. Spurs may be interested on loan, but do you want to come back and effectively pay £5m to give yourself a shot and it's only a shot at getting in the World Cup team, which is probably unlikely anyway.
“I mean, it's possible, but it's probably unlikely. You're paying £5m and you don't get a refund if it goes wrong. So, if you don't get in the squad, you don't get a refund. You're just literally sacrificing £5m, and it's probably more, by the way.”
Toney has registered 41 goals and eight assists in 59 appearances since joining Al-Ahli.
