Sunderland and Bournemouth may try to re-sign Jermain Defoe if he leaves Rangers at the end of the season, according to Paul Robinson.

The former goalkeeper, who played alongside his longstanding friend for Spurs and England, exclusively told Football Insider that the 38-year-old would have "no shortage of takers" if he wanted to return to England.

Defoe could leave the Gers as a free agent this summer, with his contract set to expire at the end of May.

He has has slipped down the pecking order at Ibrox and is now fourth-choice striker behind Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten.

Robinson believes a move south of the border could be on the cards for Defoe this summer.

"There is no doubt about it, there would be a number of clubs south of the border that would love to sign him," he told Football Insider.

"He is fit, sharp and knows how to score goals.

Rangers

"If he still wants to play there will be options in England. You look at a couple of his former clubs, Sunderland if they get promoted back to the Championship and Bournemouth.

"There will be no shortage of takers for Jermain Defoe if he wants to play for another season."
