Opta's supercomputer now has England as the second-favourites to win the World Cup after their convincing 4-2 win over Croatia on Wednesday.

England could barely have wished for a better start to the World Cup in Dallas, especially after a tough first half against old foes Croatia.

Harry Kane's early saved penalty felt like a sign of things to come, but he stepped up to dispatch the retake with aplomb after Dominik Livakovic came off his line to make the stop.

Martin Baturina's unstoppable equaliser was quickly forgotten about when Kane headed home for his brace, but Petar Musa made sure the two sides went in level at the break.

Tuchel's half-time words of wisdom worked wonders for the Three Lions, as Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford scored in the second 45 to earn a valuable three points in Group L.

England were already among the favourites to win the tournament prior to kick off, but have now jumped ahead of several top nations following their impressive victory.

Opta have released their new predictions for the World Cup final, and it makes for exciting reading for Three Lions supporters.

England second-favourites to win World Cup after latest Opta predictions

Every team has now played their first group game after Colombia beat Uzbekistan 3-1 overnight.

Several sides have matched or bettered England's performance in their own respective groups, with France beating Senegal 3-1, Germany emerging as 7-1 victors over Curacao and Lionel Messi firing Argentina to a 3-0 win against Algeria.

The Three Lions will fancy their chances of progression as group winners, with Opta handing them a 91.54 per cent chance right now, which is more than any other nation.

They are the second most likely to make the final, with a 21.31 per cent chance according to Opta.

France are leading the way in terms of making the final and winning the tournament, with a 15.73 per cent chance, while England currently have a 12.33 per cent chance of lifting the trophy on 19 July.

What do Opta think England's route to the final could be?

Sources have told Football Insider that England are concerned about the state of the World Cup pitches, but any surface issues certainly failed to hinder their performance on Wednesday night.

England look set to top Group L, which would see them face a side that finishes third in one of Groups E, H, I, J or K.

Opta are currently predicting DR Congo to be their opponents in the round of 32, with the winner of that clash facing the winner of a potential Mexico vs Senegal match up.

The quarter-final could involve one of Brazil, the Netherlands or Norway, while a semi-final tie is most likely to take place against Argentina.
