Tavernier 'very happy' at Rangers and loves Glasgow, says pundit who used to be his neighbour

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

James Tavernier will stay at Rangers this summer as he is "very happy" in Glasgow, according to Frank McAvennie.

The former Celtic and St Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heaped praise on the 29-year-old he previously neighboured and claimed he has had a "great" season.

Tavernier has been one of Steven Gerrard's side's standout performers this season, with his 41 appearances across all competitions yielding 17 goals and 15 assists.

However, the club captain's future has been the subject of speculation throughout the campaign as he approaches the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox.

Speaking to The Athletic, Tavernier's younger brother, Marcus, hinted at his sibling staying at Rangers for the foreseeable future when he said James has "found a home" in Glasgow.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the right-back's future, McAvennie said: "I think Tavernier is very happy at Rangers to be honest.

"I used to live beside him and good luck to him because he was getting a hell of a time off the fans for a couple of years. When the fans get back in they will revere these players though for what they have achieved.

Rangers

"He has been great this season, if he stayed fit and Rangers kept getting penalties I thought he would be the top goalscorer in Europe!

"I think he likes living in Glasgow though, it's a fantastic city."
