Eberechi Eze has been tipped as not wanting a move to Tottenham after an unexpected development at Crystal Palace.

Following the Eagles' 0-0 draw against Chelsea on the opening weekend of the Premier League, it appeared that Eze was waving goodbye to Crystal Palace fans as his potential move to Tottenham edges closer, after some expectations he wouldn't feature at Stamford Bridge.

The Englishman has been the focus of both Arsenal and Spurs this summer with the latter seemingly set to be the winner with Tottenham fans getting "pure goosebumps" over the news of an agreement between the clubs.

However, Palace manager Oliver Glasner dropped a surprise update by stating that the 27-year-old will feature in the squad in the UEFA Conference League qualification play-off tomorrow night (21 August).

Former Lilywhites striker Darren Bent weighed in on the ongoing transfer saga and whether the attacker will actually move to north London.

Darren Bent tips Arsenal to hijack Eberechi Eze deal amid perceived indecisiveness to join Tottenham

Speaking on talkSPORT (20 August), the ex-Aston Villa forward and co-presenter Andy Goldstein opened the conversation by discussing how the Gunners can cope with the expected lengthy injury to Kai Havertz.

Bent suggested Mikel Arteta could swoop in for the "Arsenal fan" Eze to fill the absence of the German in what would be a major twist in the transfer saga.

Debating why Spurs are taking so long to seal the deal for the Englishman ahead of Palace's Conference League tie, Bent said: "The weird part...is that he's [Eze] playing tomorrow [21 August].

"That I can't understand because, if the deal is close, the fees are agreed and stuff, why would you want him to play another game?

"Either that tells me the clubs are not as close as we think they are or he is not completely sold [on joining Spurs].

"When it looks like Spurs are so close [to signing Eze], it is really surprising that he's going to be playing tomorrow night.

"Maybe he [Eze] is not convinced that Spurs is the place for him."

Tottenham fans would be astounded if Arsenal beat them to Eberechi Eze

Football Insider verdict

After toing and froing between both of the big clubs in north London, now it is make or break for the Lilywhites to land the Englishman's signature before their arch-nemesis moves in.

The Havertz injury will almost certainly have made Arsenal hyperactive in the transfer market with less than two weeks to go as they go on the hunt to find a replacement for their German.

Viktor Gyokeres is clearly not up to full match fitness yet, so, even if Eze was to play in a false nine roles later in games, similar to Mikel Merino, Arteta would be thrilled to have him.

Daniel Levy is known for being, at times, overly tight with spending, unwilling to cough up the extra millions to secure the stars they desperately need.

After the injuries to both James Maddison and Dejand Kulusevski, the 27-year-old is the last piece of the puzzle for Thomas Frank to bolster the creative force up top.

If the Lilywhites are unwilling to go the extra mile to get their man after a time-consuming affair, Spurs fans would go absolutely mental after being led to believe the Eagles talisman will be a Tottenham player.
